An elderly fish seller from Ghana was left devastated after realizing she had been paid in counterfeit currency for all the smoked fish she had sold.

The incident occurred in the vicinity of the Korle Bu area, where the woman had been operating her roadside stall. She explained that a man on a motorcycle stopped by her stand and showed interest in purchasing all of her smoked fish.

Initially, she quoted a price of GHS 950 for the goods. After some negotiation, they agreed on a final price of GHS 800. The man paid in cash and left with the fish.

It wasn’t until the woman boarded a public bus and tried to pay her fare that she discovered something was amiss. The driver, upon examining the money, informed her that the bills were counterfeit. The woman, initially in disbelief, insisted that the money was legitimate.

Unfortunately, further examination confirmed the driver’s claims. The GHS 800 she had received was, in fact, fake.

The painful incident has since stirred discussions on social media, drawing attention to the widespread issue of counterfeit currency.
