Federal Lawmaker Kabiru Rurum Mourns Demise of 19 Kano Athletes

Hon. Kabiru Alhassan Rurum, Member of the House of Representatives for Rano, Kibiya, and Bunkure Federal Constituency, expressed sadness over the accident that killed 19 athletes from the Kano team.
The athletes were returning from the 22nd National Sports Festival, known as ‘Gateway Games 2024’, held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
In a statement released in Kano, Rurum described the athletes as promising young talents whose lives were cut short.
“These young men and women represented some of the best talent in the country,” he said.
He noted that their sudden deaths are a loss not only to their families and the people of Kano but also to Nigeria as a whole.
Rurum urged for urgent action to improve road safety to prevent similar tragedies.
“We must implement and enforce stronger safety measures to reduce accidents and save lives,” he said.
He also offered condolences to the families affected, the Kano State Government, and the Nigerian sports community, and wished a speedy recovery to those injured.
“May the deceased rest in peace, and may the injured recover quickly,” he added.
