Eid-El -Kabir: Police ban durbar procession in Kano

The Kano State Police Command has maintained a ban on all forms of Durbar activities ahead of the 2025 Eid-El-Kabir celebrations, citing security concerns.
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the command said security measures are in place to maintain order during the festivities.
“The Kano State Police Command in collaboration with other security agencies in the State congratulates Muslim faithful and all law-abiding residents of the State ahead of the 2025 Eid-El-Kabir Sallah festivities,” the statement read.
According to SP Kiyawa, the ban was first enforced during Eid-El-Fitr after intelligence reports warned of threats. He said those threats remain.
“The Command therefore reiterates that the ban on all forms of Durbar in the state is still in force and will be strictly enforced during this 2025 Eid-El-Kabir celebration, as the threats which have been put to serious checks are still potent,” Kiyawa emphasized.
He added that the decision followed consultations with security stakeholders over intelligence reports about plans to use the procession to cause unrest.
“This decision is made after consultations with relevant security stakeholders following intelligence reports indicating plans by recruited miscreants and their sponsors to use Durbar to undermine security and public order in the state,” he said.
The police listed restrictions including bans on animal riding, car racing, reckless driving, unlawful possession or display of firearms, and carrying suspicious objects.
“Worshippers are to adhere strictly to the following security measures: no horse or animal riding of any kind, no car racing or reckless driving, no unlawful possession or display of firearms, and no carrying of any unnecessary or dangerous objects that may trigger suspicion or apprehension,” Kiyawa stated.
The police also called on parents to monitor their children.
“Parents and guardians should therefore caution their children/wards against being used by subversive elements, as the Police and other security agencies are determined and ready to enforce the law to the letter,” the statement warned.
The statement ended with a call for prayers for the state, the country, and athletes who died returning from the National Sports Festival.
“Let us pray for the State, the Nation, and the State’s athletes that lost their lives on their way back from the National Sport Festival,” the statement added.
