EFCC releases VeryDarkMan after meeting bail conditions

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has released social media critic, Martin Otse, widely known as VeryDarkMan (VDM), after meeting his bail conditions.

VDM’s lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, confirmed the development on Wednesday.

“VDM released to us on bail. Special thanks to Deji Adeyanju and Partners, especially the head of our firm, Marvin Omorogbe. Thank you, Nigerians, for speaking up for him. Thank you, Egbon Sowore. Thank you, Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, Davido, opposition lawmakers, etc. I must also thank the chairman of EFCC for indulging and listening to all my concerns since Friday last week and his team. The struggle continues.”

In a viral video obtained by this newspaper and circulated by VeryDarkMan’s supporters, the activist is seen inside a car alongside his lawyer, Mr. Adeyanju.

In the video, he discusses the circumstances of his arrest, revealing that the EFCC detained him on allegations of money laundering.

The EFCC, in a statement by its Head of Media and Publicity, Dele Oyewale, confirmed on Tuesday that VeryDarkMan had been granted bail but remained in custody pending the fulfilment of his bail conditions.

According to the commission, the activist was invited for questioning over multiple petitions alleging serious financial crimes.

He was arrested after allegedly ignoring repeated invitations sent to his known addresses and communication channels.
