Edo Killings: Emir of Rano, Others Join Peace Panel

A delegation led by Kano State Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, has departed for Edo State following last month’s attacks in Uromi. Among the team members is the Emir of Rano, Ambassador Mohammad Isa Umar.

The delegation was set up by Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf to investigate the killings, encourage reconciliation, and seek peace in the area. It includes commissioners responsible for Religious Affairs, Local Government and Chieftaincy Matters, Special Duties, and Women Affairs, as well as the Chairman of Bunkure Local Government and other stakeholders.

The violence in Uromi led to multiple deaths and displacement, including victims from Kano State. In response, the state government formed the committee to engage with involved parties and address the situation.

Speaking at the Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport, Deputy Governor Gwarzo said the committee’s work goes beyond fact-finding.

“This is not just about gathering information,” he said. “We’re here to listen, to engage, and to help rebuild trust. Our goal is to restore calm and prevent any future violence. Peace is not just a word — it’s a process.”

The committee is scheduled to meet with Edo State Governor Monday Okpebholo, security officials, traditional rulers, and civil society groups during their visit.

The delegation’s activities come as communities continue to respond to the aftermath of the violence.
