Easter Message: Nigeria Needs Servant Leaders — Ex-President Jonathan

Former President Goodluck Jonathan has called on Nigerians, especially those in leadership positions, to embrace the spirit of Easter by adopting the values of selflessness, service, and sacrifice as demonstrated by Jesus Christ.

In his 2025 Easter message delivered on Friday, April 18, Jonathan encouraged citizens to remain hopeful and to draw strength from the message of Christ’s resurrection, which he described as a powerful symbol of love, victory, and renewed faith.

“At Easter, we reflect on the power of Christ’s love, the gift of righteousness and the triumph of hope over despair and every challenge in life,” Jonathan said.

He added that the death and resurrection of Christ serve as a reminder of God’s boundless love and the possibilities that faith in Him offers. “The death and resurrection of Christ on the Cross awakens us to the boundless love of God towards us; a reminder of the possibilities faith in God offers to us on earth,” he stated.

Jonathan urged Nigerians not to lose sight of the hope that Easter represents. “I urge all citizens to be encouraged by the story of the resurrection of Christ and the lessons of hope and victory that are contained in it,” he said. “Let us be reminded about the purpose of salvation and the essence of mercy and the triumphing power of faith and hope over all circumstances.”

The former president also emphasized the importance of staying optimistic despite Nigeria’s current challenges, urging everyone to believe in the nation’s potential. “Let this season renew our faith, strengthen our hope and guarantee us peace,” he said.

Speaking directly to leaders, Jonathan called for a recommitment to true service: “This moment points us to the virtues of servanthood, sacrifice and passion for service. Let us recommit to pursuing peace and justice for all.”

He concluded with a plea for unity and compassion: “Let us continue to imbibe and pursue these virtues and work towards building a nation of peace, unity, and love.”
