DSS Arrests 5 Over Baby’s Murder After Ransom; Kano Gov Lauds Swift Action

Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, has acknowledged the Department of State Services (DSS) for arresting five suspects accused of abducting and killing a one-year-old girl, Sakina Mamuda, after collecting ransom from her family.
The incident occurred in Duhun Bake village, Gwarzo Local Government Area. The girl was allegedly kidnapped by individuals from her own community. Although her family reportedly paid a ransom, the suspects allegedly killed her and dumped her body in an abandoned well.
In a statement by his spokesperson, Sanusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Governor Yusuf said the incident was heartbreaking.
“This senseless tragedy has shaken the entire state,” the governor said during a press briefing at the Government House. “I commend the DSS for their swift and decisive action. We will not allow such evil to go unpunished.”
The arrested suspects — Zailani Rabiu, Hafizu Yusuf, Abubakar Abdulkareem, Umar Lawan, and Amadu Salisu — are in custody and under investigation for conspiracy, kidnapping, and murder.
The Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barrister Haruna Isa Dederi, who attended the briefing, said the government would pursue the case and ensure the suspects face legal consequences.
Governor Yusuf also said his administration would focus on improving security. He mentioned plans to allocate more resources to intelligence, logistics, and coordination among security agencies.
He urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious activities. “Our government stands with the family of Sakina and every victim of injustice. We won’t rest until criminals like these are brought to book,” the governor said.
