CSOs Urge EFCC, DSS to Investigate Suspended Gov Fubara

The Coalition of Civil Rights Organizations, also known as the Centre for Credible Leadership and Citizens Awareness (CCLCA), on Wednesday called for an investigation into suspended Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara following allegations by Dr. George Nwaeke, the former Head of Service of the State.

During a press briefing in Abuja, the Director General of CCLCA, Dr. Gabriel Nwambu, urged the Nigerian Police Force, Department of State Services (DSS), and the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to investigate the allegations against the governor.

Dr. Nwambu stated that if confirmed, these allegations indicate a governance crisis and pose risks to democratic institutions. He noted that 30 civil society organizations (CSOs) are supporting Dr. Nwaeke, who has expressed willingness to provide evidence of corruption and other infractions involving Governor Fubara and Mr. Edison.

“We collectively urge the relevant authorities to act swiftly and transparently. It is imperative that these allegations are addressed to restore public confidence in the institutions of governance in Rivers State and Nigeria as a whole,” he said.

Dr. Nwambu also referenced President Ahmed Bola Tinubu’s intervention in Rivers State, stating that it contributed to stability during this period. He noted that the President’s action, confirmed by the National Assembly, was necessary to uphold democracy and ensure the welfare of the people.

Dr. Nwaeke’s allegations against Governor Fubara include directives for arson, financial misconduct, threats to public safety, collusion with militant groups, and interference with labor rights.

He claimed that Governor Fubara instructed his Chief of Staff to burn down the Rivers State House of Assembly to derail an impeachment process. He also alleged the use of funds for personal interest and efforts to compromise labor leaders to suppress opposition.

Dr. Nwambu emphasized that these claims require immediate attention from law enforcement agencies to ensure accountability.
