C’River Assembly extends gov’s leave by two weeks

The Cross River State House of Assembly has approved an additional two-week leave for the State Governor, Bassey Otu following a formal request transmitted to the House by the governor.
The decision to extend the leave was unanimously adopted during a plenary on Friday by members of the House, while the deputy governor, Peter Odey will continue in acting capacity pending the Governor’s return.
The Speaker of the Cross River State House of Assembly, Elvert Ayambem, said the House remains committed to transparency, good governance, and the well-being of all citizens.
He said “Our resolutions today are in the best interest of Cross Riverians. We must support our Governor as he refuels to take the State forward.”
“We must support our governor to uphold fairness in local governance. The House will always stand for justice and accountability,” the Speaker stated.
He emphasised that the decisions taken reflect the priorities of the people and assured that the Assembly will continue to carry out its constitutional duties without fear or favour.
