Court Jails PDP Ex-Chair’s Son, Ally 14 Years for ₦2.2bn Subsidy Scam

An Ikeja Special Offences Court has sentenced Mamman Ali, son of former PDP National Chairman Ahmadu Ali, and his associate, Christian Taylor, to 14 years in prison each for a ₦2.2 billion oil subsidy fraud.

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) arraigned both men, along with their company, Nasaman Oil Services Ltd, on a 57-count charge of conspiracy, obtaining money by false pretence, forgery, and use of false documents. They pleaded not guilty.

Justice Mojisola Dada said, “The evidence presented by the prosecution was compelling and proved the charge against the convicts.”

She added, “The actions of the convicts not only defrauded the government of Nigeria but also undermined the integrity of the country’s oil subsidy programme.”

Ali and Taylor were sentenced to 14 years’ imprisonment on all counts. The court ordered the forfeiture of assets and accounts connected to the fraud.

A bench warrant was issued for Oluwaseun Ogunbambo and Olabisi Abdulafeez, who remain at large.

EFCC counsel Mr. Seiduh Atteh called nine witnesses and presented documents. The defendants also testified.

The case began before Justice Adeniyi Onigbanjo and was transferred to Justice Dada after his retirement.

The EFCC said the fraud occurred in 2011 when the defendants claimed Nasaman Oil Services Ltd was entitled to ₦1.9 billion under the Petroleum Support Fund. The claim was linked to the supposed importation of 20,492,982.50 litres of Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) from SEATAC Petroleum Ltd, a company registered in the British Virgin Islands.

The EFCC said the claim was false and backed by forged documents, including a fabricated “Gasoline Analysis.”
