CATAI, Malala Fund Push for Better Girls’ Education Access

To address the barriers limiting girls’ access to education in Nigeria, the Malala Fund and its local partners visited the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad, in Abuja.

The delegation included Abubakar Sadiq Muazu, Executive Director of the Center for Advocacy, Transparency and Accountability Initiative (CATAI), who presented the organization’s 2024 Annual Report.

The report outlines CATAI’s work in promoting girls’ education in Borno and Adamawa states, where insecurity and poverty continue to affect school attendance.

“We’ve been working closely with communities in the northeast to ensure more girls have the opportunity to go to school in a safe and supportive environment,” said Muazu. “Sharing our progress with the Minister helps strengthen the connection between community action and government policy.”

Ms. Nabila Aguele, Nigeria Chief Executive of the Malala Fund, led the team and spoke on the need for collaboration between the government and civil society organizations.

“Our conversation with the Minister focused on scaling up proven initiatives and dismantling the barriers that keep girls out of school,” she noted.

Dr. Suwaiba Said Ahmad responded to the visit, saying, “We are open to working with partners who bring practical, community-driven solutions to complement our national strategies.”
