‘Buhari’s Economic Legacy Was Disaster’ — Oshiomhole

Senator Adams Oshiomhole, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has blamed former President Muhammadu Buhari for leaving behind a mismanaged economy that has made governance difficult for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

In an interview aired on Channels Television on Tuesday, Oshiomhole, now representing Edo North in the Senate, criticised the previous administration.

“Based on the economic environment inherited by this government, we would have expected that in 24 months, they would have fixed all those problems and Nigeria would be back,” Oshiomhole said. “But truly, truly, this country was badly mismanaged. The economy was badly mismanaged. This is not to blame anyone, it is just stating the fact.”

He pointed to the policies of the Buhari era as the source of the country’s economic problems, describing them as “reckless” and “dehumanising.”

In 2024, Oshiomhole had also said Nigerians should hold Buhari accountable for policies that, in his words, inflicted needless hardship.

His repeated criticism of Buhari indicates tensions within the APC over the legacy of the former president.
