Buba Galadima: There was a plot to impose emergency rule in Kano

Engr. Buba Galadima, a prominent chieftain of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP), has revealed that there was an orchestrated attempt by certain individuals to destabilize Kano, with the ultimate goal of pressuring the federal government into declaring a state of emergency in the state.
In an exclusive interview on Jigsaw, a political programme aired on AIT on Tuesday, Galadima claimed that the plot was being executed without the knowledge of President Bola Tinubu.
“Regarding the Kano situation, I can assure you that President Tinubu was completely unaware of what had transpired. I can confidently say he had no knowledge of the arrangements that were made,” Galadima stated.
“There was a grand plan aimed at setting up the Kano state government, including the Emir, to facilitate the declaration of a state of emergency.”
The NNPP chieftain went on to allege that the scheme involved a high-level meeting in Abuja and the strategic absence of a key individual, who he suggested was being groomed to assume the position of Emir of Kano.
“A meeting took place in a senior government official’s residence here in Abuja. The person who was supposed to be appointed Emir was deliberately sent to Umrah, and as we speak, he is in Saudi Arabia,” Galadima revealed.
“They had calculated that once the Emir was summoned, he would be detained in Abuja. This would prompt the military to be put on alert, and the throne would be declared vacant.”
When pressed by the programme’s host to name the individual involved, Galadima chose not to reveal the person’s identity, stating: “I don’t want to mention any names. You should investigate who is in Saudi Arabia among the princes of Kano. Everyone in Nigeria knows what’s going on.”
This comes on the heels of a recent development, where Kayode Egbetokun, the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), rescinded an invitation extended to Muhammadu Sanusi, the Emir of Kano, to appear at the force headquarters in Abuja.
The invitation was initially issued last week, with Sanusi asked to answer questions concerning alleged killings during the recent Eid-el-Fitr celebrations.
