Bichi Rep Mourns 22 Kano Athletes

Abubakar Kabir Abubakar, a member of the House of Representatives for Bichi Federal Constituency, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of 22 Kano athletes who were involved in a tragic road accident while returning from the National Sports Festival held in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Athletes, sports officials, medical personnel, administrators, and a journalist died in the fatal crash, which occurred in Dakatsalle town in Kura Local Government Area, about 50 kilometres from Kano.

“I am deeply saddened by the news of the tragic deaths of 22 young athletes and officials from Kano State who were involved in a road accident at Dakatsalle town while returning from the just-concluded National Sports Festival (NSF) held in Abeokuta, Ogun State,” he said.

In a statement on Monday, Abubakar Kabir Abubakar described the incident as a great loss to Kano State and the sporting community in Nigeria.

He said, “This is a great loss not only to the families of the deceased or Kano State but also to Nigeria as a whole.

“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the families of the athletes and officials, the Kano State Ministry of Youth and Sports Development, and the sports community in Kano State and across Nigeria.

“I ask Allah the Almighty to repose the souls of the deceased and give their families the fortitude to bear the loss. Amin.”
