Bandits Raid Zamfara, Kill Eight, Set School Ablaze

Rijiya Village in Gusau Local Government Area of Zamfara State was thrown into mourning on Wednesday, April 3, as a deadly bandit attack claimed the lives of eight people and razed a primary school.

According to counter-insurgency analyst in the Lake Chad region, Zagazola Makama, the incident occurred at approximately 4:00 p.m. when a group of heavily armed bandits stormed the community, firing indiscriminately.

“Intelligence sources revealed that the armed assailants, wielding AK-47 rifles and other dangerous weapons, launched a brutal assault on the village,” Makama stated.

Among those killed were two members of the Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF) and six other civilians who were caught in the crossfire.

In a further act of violence, the attackers set fire to a primary school building that was being used as a base by local security volunteers.

“The destruction of the school underscores the brazen disregard these criminal elements have for education and community structures,” Makama said, calling the attack “a clear escalation of insecurity in Zamfara.”
