Anambra: Ex-Rep Nicholas Ukachukwu Emerges APC Guber Candidate

Nicholas Ukachukwu, a former member of the House of Representatives, has emerged as the All Progressives Congress (APC) flagbearer for the upcoming Anambra State governorship election, scheduled for November 8, 2025.
Ukachukwu secured a decisive victory at the party’s primary election held on Saturday, polling 1,455 votes to defeat his closest rival, Valentine Ozigbo, who garnered 67 votes. Other aspirants, Edozie Madu and Johnbosco Onunkwo, received 8 and 26 votes respectively.
In his post-election remarks, Ukachukwu vowed to lead the APC to victory in the state. “We shall deliver Anambra to the APC. One thing I want to say here — nobody has won the governorship of Anambra without my support; it has never happened before,” he declared.
Reflecting on his longstanding political influence in the state, he added, “I have been playing godfatherism, but now I want to be the father of the father — no more godfather.”
Meanwhile, hours before the primary commenced, three aspirants — Chukwuma Umeoji, a former federal lawmaker; Obiora Okonkwo; and Paul Chukwuma — withdrew from the race. Chukwuma has since resigned from the party.
