Hajj 2025: First Batch of Nigerian Pilgrims to Return Home Monday, Says NAHCON Boss

Nigerian pilgrims who participated in this year’s Hajj will begin their return journey on Monday, June 9, 2025, the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has announced.

Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of NAHCON, Professor Abdullahi Saleh, disclosed this in Minna on Friday while felicitating with Muslims on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

“All praise belongs to Allah for the privilege of witnessing another Eid al-Adha, the celebration of sacrifice,” Saleh said. “On behalf of NAHCON, I heartily congratulate all Muslims on the occasion. We especially congratulate the fortunate pilgrims who witnessed the Day of Arafat. May Allah accept your prayers and sacrifices, and those of Muslims worldwide.”

He said return flights would begin on the 13th of Dhul-Hijjah, which corresponds to Monday, June 9, and that the first batch would include pilgrims from Imo State with Air Peace, Bauchi State with Max Air, and Kebbi and Sokoto States with Flynas.

He advised the first batch of pilgrims to begin preparations and urged them to pray for a successful and smooth return process for everyone.

Beyond logistics, the NAHCON boss used the opportunity to reflect on the spiritual dimensions of Hajj and its relevance for daily life.

“Remember the trust in Allah that Sayyidatuna Hajara had, which led to the miraculous emergence of Zamzam,” he said. “Reflect on the sacrifice of Prophet Ibrahim, who left his family in the desert, trusting solely in Allah. That obedience was rewarded with the flourishing city of Makkah.

“See how trust in Allah brought abundant blessings—provision, safety, and community—where none existed, in response to Prophet Ibrahim’s supplication.”

He said the lessons of trust, discipline, and obedience should guide communities and nations toward prosperity.

Commending the pilgrims for their conduct, Saleh said, “While celebrating the success of this year’s Hajj, I must commend the cooperation and orderly conduct of Nigerian pilgrims. Their patience and discipline made NAHCON’s job easier.

“We also appreciate the efforts of the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards for their support and excellent coordination, which contributed greatly to the success of the operations.”

He also acknowledged NAHCON’s staff and other officials for their dedication.

“To our dedicated NAHCON staff—many of whom served pilgrims while in the state of ihram—your sacrifice is acknowledged. Your reward is with Allah,” he said.

Saleh further praised the contributions of board members, ad-hoc staff, and the strong backing from the Nigerian government.

“We must not forget to acknowledge the strong support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima. Their contributions were instrumental in the smooth execution of this year’s Hajj operations.

“We also commend the excellent services experienced in the Mashair—Mina, Arafat, and Muzdalifah.

“NAHCON remains committed to delivering even better outcomes with the continued support and cooperation of all stakeholders,” he added.
