Reverend Father Slumps, Passes Away While Playing Tennis in Anambra

Reverend Father Anthony Udogu, a Catholic priest from the Diocese of Awka, tragically collapsed and passed away while engaged in a game of lawn tennis.
This unfortunate event has led to widespread alarm in Awka, Anambra State.
The Chancellor of the Diocese, Rev Fr Charles Ndubuisi, confirmed the priest’s death through an official statement released on Tuesday.
“With faith in the resurrection of the Lord, the Catholic Diocese of Awka announces the demise of our brother priest, Rev Fr Anthony Udogu, whose sudden death occurred in the early hours of today,” the statement read.
Ndubuisi reported that the priest fell while playing tennis and was promptly taken to a nearby hospital, but all attempts to revive him were unsuccessful.
At the time of his death, Fr Udogu served as the Parish Priest of St Francis of Assisi in Awka and held the position of Dean of Awka Deanery II.
The statement further noted that the late priest was highly regarded for his leadership, dedication to pastoral duties, and commitment to community development.
The Catholic Diocese extended its condolences to his family, parishioners, and all who are grieving his loss, promising that burial arrangements will be communicated in due time.
“May the soul of Rev Fr Anthony Nnaemeka Udogu rest in the bosom of the Lord,” the statement concluded.
