Katsina Mourns Ex-Military Administrator Col. Akaagerger

Katsina State is in mourning following the death of Colonel Joseph Akaagerger (rtd.), who served as the state’s Military Administrator from August 1998 to May 1999.

Governor Dikko Umar Radda expressed deep sorrow over the passing of the former administrator in a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Mohammed, on Monday.

Governor Radda described Col. Akaagerger as a man who served Katsina with dignity and purpose during a pivotal period in Nigeria’s history — the transition from military to democratic rule.

“In the short time he governed Katsina, he laid foundations that still stand today. We remember him not just as a military leader, but as a bridge-builder who fostered a lasting bond between Katsina and his home state of Benue,” the statement read.

Born on May 5, 1956, Col. Akaagerger’s life was defined by service. After his military career, he was elected senator for Benue North East in 2007, earning respect both in military and civilian leadership.

The governor noted that Col. Akaagerger embodied the rare blend of discipline, legal acumen, and democratic ideals, adding, “He may have been Benue by birth, but through his service, he became a son of Katsina.”

On behalf of the government and people of Katsina, Governor Radda extended heartfelt condolences to Governor Hyacinth Alia of Benue State, the Akaagerger family, and all who knew and respected him.

“As we bid farewell to this patriot, we pray that his legacy of unity and public service continues to inspire future generations. May God grant him eternal rest and give his loved ones the strength to bear this great loss,” the governor said.
