NNPP Warns Kwankwaso Against Using Party Name to Attack Presidency

The New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) has distanced itself from Senator Rabiu Kwankwaso, its 2023 presidential candidate, following his recent verbal attacks on President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Sunday in Lagos, the NNPP’s National Publicity Secretary, Dr. Oginni Olaposi, apologized to President Tinubu and the APC for the remarks made by Kwankwaso.
He said the party has expelled the former Kano State governor and cut ties with him and the Kwankwasiya Movement he leads.
“We sincerely apologize to President Tinubu and the APC, led by Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, for the unwarranted insults and abusive statements from Kwankwaso,” Olaposi said.
He said Kwankwaso no longer speaks for the NNPP and should stop using the party’s name to attack the Presidency and the APC. According to Olaposi, Kwankwaso was expelled long ago and should focus on his own issues, noting many of his followers have moved to the APC.
The statement referenced several court decisions—including an April 3 ruling by the Abuja High Court, and judgments from the Abia State and FCT High Courts—that upheld Kwankwaso’s expulsion.
Finally, Olaposi urged the media and public to stop identifying Kwankwaso as an NNPP member. “Kwankwaso is now solely the leader of the Kwankwasiya Movement, not the NNPP,” he emphasized.
