Kano Youths Blast KEDCO Over Worsening Electricity Supply

The Northern Youth Assembly (NYA), Kano State Chapter, has expressed concern over the worsening electricity situation in Kano State.
In a statement signed by its chairman, Sulaiman Idris, and made available to newsmen, NYA said the persistent power outages experienced by residents and businesses have caused hardship, slowed economic activities, and reduced the quality of life across the state.
“This critical situation reflects the continued failure of the Kano Electricity Distribution Company (KEDCO) to effectively distribute power within the state. It also points to the Federal Government’s unfulfilled promises of ensuring a stable and reliable power supply for Nigerians,” the group stated.
The group said that despite repeated assurances, the situation remains unacceptable.
“We, therefore, use this medium to call upon stakeholders — including community leaders, energy experts, and policymakers — to urgently convene and deliberate on sustainable solutions to Kano’s electricity crisis.
“This issue demands immediate attention and coordinated efforts at all levels.”
“Moreover, we issue a strong call to wealthy individuals, investors, and industrialists in Kano, the Northern region, and across Nigeria: Now is the time to invest in independent power generation and distribution companies. Kano needs innovative, localized solutions to meet its growing electricity demand.”
NYA added that “with unity, innovation, and strategic investment, Kano can overcome its electricity challenges and set a model for other regions in Nigeria.”
