Federal High Court Strikes Out Amart’s Suit Against Kano Censorship Board

A Federal High Court sitting along Court Road in Kano has dismissed a lawsuit filed by Hajiya Aisha Amart, the owner of Amart Enterprises, against the Kano State Censorship Board.

The suit aimed to stop the board from intervening in the company’s alleged involvement in film copyright and downloading activities in the state.

Justice Simon A. Amobeda ruled that the court lacked jurisdiction to hear the case and struck out the suit.

The case, which has lasted several years, followed allegations that Amart Enterprises violated copyright regulations and breached agreements with the board.

The issue became public after the Association of Kano Film Downloaders petitioned the board, expressing concern over the company’s operations.

Reacting to the court ruling, Executive Secretary of the Censorship Board, Alhaji Abba El-mustapha, said “We are pleased with the outcome of the case. This judgment reinforces our stand that the law must be respected by all, regardless of status or influence.”

“My commitment is to all stakeholders, particularly the voiceless. We must all abide by the law if we truly want the industry to grow.”

“I have made it clear that there will be no room for sentiments. Personal ties will not override the law. We are here to protect creative work and ensure fair play.”

He called on stakeholders in the film industry to comply with regulations.
