Nigerian Man Destroys GTBank ATM Card In Protest Of VeryDarkman’s Arrest

  • A Nigerian man gained attention for destroying his GTBank ATM card in protest.
  • The protest was in response to the arrest of VeryDarkMan.
  • In a viral video, the man cuts his ATM card while criticizing GTBank.

A Nigerian man has gone viral after destroying his Guaranty Trust Bank (GTBank) ATM card in a bold act of protest against the recent arrest of popular activist Martins Vincent Otse, known online as VeryDarkMan (VDM).

In the widely shared video, the man is seen cutting his ATM card into pieces while vocally criticizing GTBank. He alleges that the bank played a role in VDM’s arrest, expressing outrage over what he perceives as unjust treatment.

VDM was reportedly taken into custody by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on May 2, 2025. His arrest occurred shortly after he visited a GTBank branch in Abuja to address issues related to unauthorized withdrawals from his mother’s account. While a circulating video claims that the bank had no direct involvement in the arrest, many of VDM’s followers remain skeptical and hold GTBank partially responsible.

The card-cutting protester claimed he felt deceived by the bank and took the dramatic step to show solidarity with the detained activist.
