Falsehoods, Desperation — Kano Govt Fires Back at Ex-SSG Baffa Bichi Over Corruption Allegations

The Kano State Government has fired back at its former Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Baffa Bichi, dismissing his recent corruption allegations against the Abba Kabir Yusuf-led administration as false, desperate, and politically driven.

Bichi, in a widely circulated video, accused the current administration of being “ten times more corrupt” than the one it succeeded, led by former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje. He claimed to have proof and vowed that the opposition would unseat the government in the 2027 elections.

Reacting to the claims, the state’s Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Garba Waiya, described Bichi’s outburst as misleading and aimed at misleading the public for political gain.

“We had initially stated that Bichi’s removal was due to health reasons, out of respect for him. But now, it is necessary to make it clear that his dismissal was not purely health-related,” Waiya said during a press briefing on Friday.

He said it was unfortunate that someone who held such a high office would resort to spreading misinformation just to stay politically relevant.

“This administration operates with transparency and a firm commitment to service delivery. Comparing us to the previous government is not only unfair but a distortion of reality,” Waiya added.

The commissioner further dared Bichi to produce evidence to back his claims.

“If he truly has proof of corruption, he should bring it forward. Making wild accusations without evidence will not stop the progress of this administration,” Waiya stated.

He also expressed concern about the former SSG’s health, saying, “Judging by the nature of his remarks, I strongly advise him to focus on his health and seek proper medical attention.”

Waiya urged citizens to disregard what he described as baseless allegations and reaffirmed the government’s resolve to stay focused on its development agenda.

It will be recalled that Baffa Bichi was removed from office on March 29, 2024, in what was described at the time as a major political shake-up that also affected several other commissioners and top aides within the Yusuf administration.
