Kano Approves ₦51.5bn for Projects to Improve Citizens’ Lives

The Kano State Government has approved over ₦51.5 billion for a wide range of developmental projects across the state.
The approval was announced by the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, after a State Executive Council meeting held on Wednesday.
According to Waiya, the funds will be used for projects in infrastructure, education, water supply, environment, technology, and public welfare.
₦3.4 billion will go to installing wireless, solar-powered traffic lights in Kano’s metropolitan areas. The Ministry of Works received ₦5.4 billion for road rehabilitation, including the stretch from Mumbayya House to Tal’udu Junction and Sharada Road.
₦390 million was approved for installing elevators at Gidan Murtala and Gidan Ado Bayero. ₦105 million was allocated for constructing a new road linking Miller Road to Mission Road.
Over ₦1.2 billion was allocated for upgrading the School for Islamic Studies in Dawakin Tofa, Tofa, and Ungogo LGAs. ₦327 million will be used to settle outstanding liabilities within the Ministry of Education. ₦5.3 billion was set aside for foreign and local scholarship programmes.
The Ministry of Water Resources received ₦1.7 billion for fuel and electricity costs for the Greater Kano Works and the Water Board for the first quarter of 2025.
₦11 million was approved for 11 months of back allowances and increased stipends for 100 forest guards.
₦185 million was approved for fibre optic installation and internet bandwidth subscriptions from 2023 to 2025.
Over ₦265 million was approved for compensation to property owners affected by the expansion of Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology in Wudil. ₦81 million was allocated for compensation related to road construction in Panda–Hamdullahi–Albasu–Sakwayen Dutse.
₦15.6 billion was approved for severance packages and allowances owed to former councillors who served between 2014 and 2024.
Other approvals include ₦240 million for fire service vehicles for Government House, ₦115 million for renovation of the Juma’at Mosque at Amana City, and ₦303 million for a new mosque in Rijiyar Gwangwan, Dawakin Kudu.
“These initiatives are designed to touch lives, support growth, and build a Kano where citizens benefit from responsible and people-centered governance,” Waiya concluded.
