Gov. Yusuf to Rano Residents: ‘We Won’t Rest Until You Get Clean Water’

Relief may soon come to residents of Rano Emirate as Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has assured them that his administration is fully committed to ending their long-standing water crisis.
During a recent visit to the Taliwaiwai area—an arid, mountainous zone in Rano known for both its mining activities and lack of water—Governor Yusuf announced the discovery of a major underground water source.
He described the find as “a milestone achievement” and promised swift action to turn it into a dependable water supply.
“This isn’t just news—it’s a promise. We will not rest until clean, safe water flows into every home in Rano and across Kano State,” the Governor told residents, who gathered in excitement during his visit.
Plans are already in motion to construct a water treatment and distribution plant at the site.
According to the Commissioner for Water Resources, Hon. Umar Haruna Doguwa, the discovery followed a direct order from the Governor to find a lasting solution to the region’s water problems.
“This isn’t a stopgap measure,” Doguwa emphasized. “We’re looking at a sustainable project that will serve thousands of households for years to come.”
Experts have confirmed the reliability of the water source after detailed geological and hydrological surveys. Once completed, the project is expected to provide water not just for drinking, but also for farming and livestock—lifelines for the people of Rano and surrounding communities.
The Governor also made it clear that the people will be part of the process. “We’re not just building a water project—we’re building trust, with the community’s voice at the center,” he said.
