Rivers Professional Group Slams Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.) With Four Court Cases Over Dissolution Of Key Institutions

A professional advocacy group, Professionals for Responsive and Efficient Governance (PREG), has filed four separate lawsuits challenging the actions of the Sole Administrator of Rivers State, Rear Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (Rtd.), accusing him of dismantling democratic institutions through unconstitutional means.

At its 2nd World Press Conference held in Port Harcourt on Friday, PREG, through its convener, Soseipiriye Long Williams, Esq, announced that the group has fulfilled its earlier promise — made during its maiden press briefing on April 11 — to take legal steps against what it described as a “flagrant abuse of executive powers” by the Sole Administrator.

According to Williams, the four lawsuits filed at the High Court in Port Harcourt are:

Williams emphasized that the lawsuits are aimed at defending democratic structures and preserving the rule of law in Rivers State. “We will not fold our arms while democracy is being dismantled in broad daylight,” he said.

He further encouraged Rivers people and Nigerians at large to remain hopeful and vigilant, quoting a statement once made by the Israeli Prime Minister: “Never give up hope. Always remain vigilant. Hope charts the future, vigilance protects it.”
