JUST IN: Kwankwaso Lists 5 Conditions for APC Entry

A fresh political standoff is emerging as the Coalition of Northern Youth Forum (CNYF), led by Alhasan Barau Gausu, accuses the Presidency of trying to coerce Dr. Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso into joining the All Progressives Congress (APC).
The group alleges that the Tinubu administration is using state agencies, especially the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), to pressure the former Kano State governor and leader of the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) through a renewed corruption investigation.
The issue centers on a 2016 contract worth N15.5 billion, awarded by the Federal Ministry of Water Resources to a company linked to one of Kwankwaso’s associates.
According to the group, the EFCC invited the contractor for questioning last Tuesday, aiming to secure statements that could implicate Kwankwaso.
“This is nothing short of blackmail,” Gausu said. “They want to silence Kwankwaso’s rising political influence and force him into a weak alliance with the ruling party, using fear and intimidation.”
In addition to the legal actions, a political delegation was reportedly sent from the Presidency.
A former Katsina State governor, now TETFUND board chairman, was said to have visited Kwankwaso’s Abuja residence, asking him to return to the APC. Kwankwaso reportedly presented a list of conditions.
These included lower petrol prices, more investment in education, restoration of the Almajiri Model Education System, the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF), and three ministerial slots for his allies from the northwest, northeast, and south-south.
Sources said Kwankwaso indicated he would remain in the NNPP or possibly join the Social Democratic Party (SDP) coalition being discussed by Atiku Abubakar and Nasir El-Rufai if these demands were not met.
The situation may have prompted APC National Chairman Abdullahi Ganduje’s recent claim that Kwankwaso was returning to the APC. During a visit by the Tinubu Support Group to the APC secretariat, Ganduje stated, “NNPP is dead.”
