Shettima: Kano Remains Heartbeat of North

Vice President Kashim Shettima has described Kano as the heartbeat of Northern Nigeria and called for unity and peace in the state, urging political leaders to set aside their differences for the greater good.
Shettima made the appeal during a condolence visit to the family of the late Galadiman Kano, Alhaji Abbas Sanusi, who passed away about two weeks ago.
In a statement issued by the Chief Press Secretary to the Kano State Governor, Mustapha Muhammad, on Saturday, April 19, 2025, the Vice President emphasized the importance of harmony among Kano’s political actors.
“Please, I beg you all, do not let politics divide you. Stay united,” Shettima urged. “Kano is the heart of the North, and I am part of the North. May Allah bring unity among us all.”
Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, who received the Vice President at the residence of the late Galadiman Kano, expressed appreciation on behalf of the government and people of Kano State.
“We thank you sincerely for coming to mourn with us. May Almighty Allah grant you safe travels back home,” the Governor said.
Also speaking on behalf of the bereaved family, Alhaji Sunusi Abbas thanked the Vice President for the visit and expressed hope that the death of the Galadiman Kano would serve as a turning point for unity among Kano’s political leaders.
“We are truly grateful. We saw representatives of all political parties come together. The Governor has been here more than once, and now he’s returned with the Vice President. We pray this moment brings lasting unity to Kano,” he said.
