Kwankwasiyya, Gandujiyya Political Crisis Must End — Shettima

Vice President Kashim Shettima has called on political groups in Kano State, particularly supporters of the Kwankwasiyya and Gandujiyya movements, to put aside their rivalry.

Shettima made the call during a condolence visit to the family of the late Galadiman Kano, Abbas Sunusi. Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, APC State Chairman Abdullahi Abbas, and others from both political groups were present.

Describing Kano as a politically significant state in Northern Nigeria, the Vice President said internal conflicts reduce its influence.

“It is a mistake for a state like Kano, known for its political importance, to be divided due to partisan conflict,” Shettima said. “Kano is a model for the entire country. When political disagreements surface here, they affect not just Kano but the whole North.”

Shettima spoke in Hausa to connect with the people, despite not being a native speaker.

He also prayed for the late Galadiman Kano and extended condolences to families affected by bandit attacks in Shanono, where several people were abducted or killed.

“We pray for peace, not just in Kano but across Nigeria,” he added.

The Kwankwasiyya movement supports former governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, while the Gandujiyya camp backs former governor and current APC national chairman Abdullahi Umar Ganduje.

Their rivalry, which began after Ganduje took office in 2015, has divided the APC in the state and contributed to Kwankwaso’s defection to the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP).
