Lt. Col. Anele Makes History as Army’s First Female Spokesperson

The Nigerian Army has named Lieutenant Colonel Anele Onyinyechi Appolonia as its new Acting Director of Army Public Relations, making her the first woman to ever hold the position.

Lt. Col. Anele, a seasoned officer from Direct Regular Course 15 and a member of the Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR), is stepping into the role following the redeployment of Major General Onyema Nwachukwu to the Nigerian Army Heritage and Future Centre.

Her appointment takes effect from April 22, 2025.

Prior to this historic appointment, she completed a six-month strategic leadership course at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre and was posted to the Department of Civil-Military Relations.

She also previously served as the Public Relations Officer in the Office of the Chief of Army Staff. Until her latest appointment, she was working with the Department of Civil-Military Relations.
