Abuja Generates More Revenue Than Kano, Kaduna, 5 Others Combined

The latest report by the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS) shows that the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) generated more internally generated revenue (IGR) in 2023 than the combined total of all seven states in the North-West geopolitical zone.
According to the data, the FCT generated N211.10 billion, while the North-West states collectively generated N206.23 billion.
Kaduna recorded N62.49 billion, Kano N37.38 billion, and Jigawa N27.54 billion. Katsina generated N26.96 billion, Zamfara N22.16 billion, Sokoto N17.96 billion, and Kebbi N11.74 billion.
The figures highlight disparities in revenue generation and the continued reliance of some states on federal allocations.
The FCT’s higher revenue is linked to its taxation system, presence of businesses, and a more formal economy, in contrast to northern states that rely more on informal economic activities.
