“I’m Making Choices for Myself,” Michelle Obama Breaks Silence on Divorce Rumors

Michelle Obama, the former First Lady of the United States of America, has recently addressed the divorce rumours about her and her husband, Barack Obama.

The Author addressed this sensitive topic in an interview on the Work in progress podcast.

Michelle stated that the rumours began all because she did not attend two major events with her husband the former president of the United States.

These events were President Donald Trump’s inauguration and President Jimmy Carter’s funeral.

While clearing the air, Obama spoke on the struggle of disappointing people.

“That’s the thing that we as women, I think we struggle with: disappointing people. I mean, so much so that this year people were, you know, they couldn’t even fathom that I was making a choice for myself that they had to assume that my husband and I are divorcing,” she stated.

“That this couldn’t be a grown woman just making a set of decisions for herself, right? That’s what society does to us. Touching on societal stereotypes”, she added.

“We start actually, finally going, “What am I doing? Who am I doing this for?” And if it doesn’t fit into the sort of stereotype of what people think we should do, then it gets labeled as something negative and horrible.” She said while speaking on expectations society has for women.

The former first Lady, accomplished author and Attorney, who is married with two children said she intended to live her life however she wants even after turning 61.
