BORBDA seeks increased food production

The Managing Director of the Benin-Owena River Basin Development Authority, Dr. Femi Adekanbi, has announced that the agency’s new management team will implement strategic measures aimed at reducing food prices across Nigeria.

He emphasised that the agency’s multipurpose approach and resourcefulness would drive significant growth in agricultural production and increase food availability nationwide.

Adekanbi made this statement during a guided tour of the agency’s facilities in Edo, where he was accompanied by other members of the management team.

He highlighted the importance of collaboration, particularly from host communities where the various river basin projects are located, to achieve the agency’s goals.

“We must work together to achieve this mission. Collaborative efforts are key, especially from the host communities where our projects are situated,” Adekanbi said, underscoring the vital role local stakeholders play in realising the agency’s objectives.

He also addressed the staff, urging them to embrace diligence and commitment as the management sets clear performance expectations.

“We must charge ourselves to be more diligent and committed because the new management is setting clear expectations for performance and responsibility. We are hopeful that this new chapter will bring fresh energy, innovative ideas, and a renewed sense of purpose to the river basin, in line with President Bola Tinubu’s commitment to ensuring food sufficiency,” he added.

Executive Director of Finance at BORBDA, Adegboyega Bamisile,  reassured the investor community of the safety of their investments under the new management team.

“We, the new management team of BORBDA, will guarantee the security of any investor or partner’s funds and will also ensure they see a dynamic return on investment,” Bamisile said, stressing the importance of concerted efforts across the agricultural sector to guarantee food security.

Meanwhile, Johnson Oghuma, Executive Director for Agricultural Services, called for collective efforts from all stakeholders to improve security around BORBDA facilities. He emphasized that enhanced security is crucial for achieving the agency’s ultimate goal of food security.

It is worth noting that President Tinubu recently appointed key figures to the leadership of the Benin-Owena Development Authority. These include Mr. Mike Ezomo (Edo) as Chairman, Dr. Femi Adekanbi (Ondo) as Managing Director, Dr. Austin Izagbo (Delta) as Executive Director for Planning and Design, Mr. Johnson Oghuma (Edo) for Agricultural Services, Adegboyega Bamisile (Ekiti) for Finance, and Bayode Akinduro (Ondo) for Engineering.

With these new appointments and the agency’s strategic direction, there are expectations of enhanced productivity and food security, aligning with the broader national goal of reducing food prices and ensuring sufficiency in the agricultural sector.
