BUK: Fake Admission Reports Are Outdated, Inaccurate

Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has firmly dismissed reports alleging irregularities in its admission process, describing the claims as false, outdated, and misleading.

In a statement signed by Lamara Garba, Deputy Registrar and Head of Public Affairs Directorate, the university said the narrative currently circulating across several online platforms refers to an incident that occurred over two years ago, during the 2021/2022 Direct Entry admissions.

“The attention of Bayero University, Kano (BUK) has been drawn to a misleading narrative circulating by several online newspapers and on other platforms regarding our admission process,” the statement read. “We wish to categorically state that the claims being made are false and distort the facts.”

According to the university, it was during the rigorous screening process in 2021/2022 that several applications backed by fake results were uncovered. In line with its zero-tolerance policy on academic fraud, BUK took decisive action by denying admission to all implicated applicants.

“Rather than being a scandal, this development earned BUK commendation from the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), which applauded our vigilance and commitment to due process,” the statement added.

The university emphasized that in recognition of its efforts, it was honoured with an Award of Excellence and Due Diligence by JAMB in 2023, becoming the first Nigerian university to receive such an accolade.

“We urge the public to disregard the false information being shared online. The facts remain clear: BUK acted with integrity, upheld high standards, and was commended for doing so,” Garba said.
