A Nigerian man is celebrating a significant milestone after officially gaining British citizenship, six years after arriving in the UK on a work visa.
He proudly showcased his new British passport in an emotional post on his X (formerly Twitter) profile.
He mentioned that he achieved this status last month and got his blue passport two weeks later.
He pointed out that while it may seem like an “ordinary” event to others, it holds great importance for him.
“I became a British citizen last month, and just two weeks later, my ‘Blue’ passport arrived,” he wrote. “Visiting London has been a childhood dream, but never in my wildest dreams did I think I’d one day be called a citizen of the UK — a place I can now call home.”
“It took me some time to put this into words as I am still processing it all, but I am incredibly grateful for the opportunity. This country has given me so much, and I have grown so much since arriving at Heathrow on 1st January, 2019.”
“For that boy from Bariga who defied the odds, this is a huge milestone I am proud of and choose to celebrate.”
Sharing how he accomplished it, he wrote: “Took 6 years on a work visa.”
