A Nigerian graduate has stirred significant debate online after he set fire to his university degree and National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) certificate, expressing his frustration with the job market and his personal struggles.
In a video that has gone viral, the young man, who has not been identified, shared that he spent seven years in university and graduated with a second class lower, achieving a GPA of 3.4, just short of the 3.5 needed for a second class upper.
This disappointment made him feel consistently unlucky. He had always wanted to be a singer, but after facing challenges in that field, he sought a more stable career in the corporate world.
His breaking point came during a job interview when he was offered a salary of ₦95,000, realizing that ₦60,000 would be consumed by transportation costs, leaving him with little to live on.
In a moment of frustration, he burned his academic and NYSC certificates, highlighting his discontent with his circumstances and the state of the nation.
“No regret because why me with 3.4 GPA and 2.5 GPA graduate gather dey second class? I’m always depressed anytime I remember how unlucky I was graduating with 3.4 GPA; so let it go to hell. This country would turn you to a mad person,” he noted.
The event has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media.
