JUST IN: S’Court overturns judgment recognizing Julius Abure as LP chairman

The Supreme Court has nullified the Court of Appeal’s decision that recognized Julius Abure as the National Chairman of the Labour Party (LP).

In a unanimous ruling, a five-member panel of the apex court concluded that the Court of Appeal lacked the jurisdiction to declare Abure as National Chairman, stating that the core issue revolved around the party’s internal leadership.

The court emphasized that leadership disputes within a political party fall under internal matters that are beyond the reach of the judiciary.

The Supreme Court also upheld the appeal brought by Senator Nenadi Usman and another party, deeming it valid and justified.

In addition, it dismissed the cross-appeal from Abure’s faction of the Labour Party, deeming it without merit.
