Ex-NYSC DG, Brig-Gen Tsiga Regains Freedom After 56 Days in Captivity

Brigadier-General Maharazu Tsiga (rtd), former Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has regained his freedom after spending 56 days in captivity Daily Trust reports, Daily Trust reports.
Tsiga was abducted on February 5, 2025, from his hometown in Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, along with nine other residents. Despite a ransom payment by his family, his captors held him for several more weeks before finally releasing him.
Initial reports on the ransom amount were conflicting. While some sources claimed that N60 million was paid, the actual amount was nearly three times higher.
A close family member disclosed that after receiving the ransom, the kidnappers remained silent for a week before making contact.
“The money was delivered, but they only reached out on Tuesday, March 11, allowing us to hear his voice,” the source revealed.
He further stated that the abductors had demanded additional money, but the family refused to comply. “Nothing more was paid. As we speak, they are in Zamfara State, preparing to take the general to Abuja,” he added.
A senior military source also confirmed Tsiga’s release. Close family members assured that he is in good condition.
