2027: Aregbesola’s Men Drum Support for Atiku, Reject Tinubu

Supporters of former Osun State Governor, Rauf Aregbesola, have declared support for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, exposing a growing division with President Bola Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.

During Atiku’s visit to Osun State on Friday, the area around Aregbesola’s residence became a venue for political expression as local praise singers, known to be affiliated with the former governor, chanted songs in support of Atiku and against Tinubu’s possible reelection.

A video posted by Atiku on X showed the traditional Yoruba singers, dressed in white with yellow caps, praising both Atiku and Aregbesola. Their chants shifted from traditional greetings to political messages.

“Atiku is Aregbesola’s ally. Atiku is our father. In 2027, Tinubu will fall,” they sang, accompanied by the talking drum.

This has added to ongoing speculation about a potential alliance between opposition figures and former APC leaders aiming to challenge Tinubu in 2027.

Aregbesola, formerly close to Tinubu, has had a tense relationship with him, especially after Gboyega Oyetola, a Tinubu ally, succeeded him in Osun.

The disagreement intensified when Aregbesola was reported to have opposed Oyetola’s reelection.

In 2022, Aregbesola mocked Tinubu at a political rally but later attempted reconciliation. However, his recent meeting with Atiku and the reactions it drew suggest that the conflict may still be unresolved.
